Andalusian Singing Poodle

Back in the 80s, my beloved Carlos Cano also looked a bit like a poodle -a handsome, athletic poodle with his impressive Afro haircut. Anyhow, today we celebrate the National Day of Andalusia and this song could have become Andalusia's National Anthem. It's a really emotional song, I like it very much (despite my not being a nationalist). Worth listening!

Cagnolina persa

Tonight a very good friend of mine has left facebook. I am sincerely sad. Just in case you read this, carissima, I want to tell you that I will miss you and your sweet cagnolina, that I know that many others will miss you as well and that we all hope that you come back soon again. Loads of Love from your broken-hearted friend Ottima Massima.

Perroskarzo

Perroskarzo is the stage name of my human uncle José Guerrero Ramos. He's a singer and guitar player -and he builds beautiful and extremelly well sounding Spanish guitars (both Classical and Flamenco). His instruments (handmade with love, patience and great craftsmanship) are high quality but still affordable -if you do without premium dog food for a couple of decades. In this photo sequence you can see how he works. If you are interested, you can meet him on facebook: facebook.com/luthierj.guerrero.

Dips are for real

All Hellhounds Eve draws nearer and nearer.

I am the ruthless Heiress of a long Dynasty of Catalonian Vampire Dogs. Catalonian Hellhounds are called Dips and appear on many coats of arms. They are mischievous black long-haired dogs who earn their living as loyal emissaries of the Devil, enjoy sucking people's blood -and are otherwise handsome and gentle beings. My bloodthirsty ancestors return to life on this most canine of all festivities.

Happy Hellhounds Eve to all my friends!

Canine Festivity (and yet more family: medieval predecessors)

All Hellhounds Eve draws nearer: let's think of The Apparently Dead. This photo appeared once on my facebook account as "profile picture" but actually I'm not the dog photographed on it, I just shot the photo. The guy with the blood-dripping teeth and the wild eyes is my ancestor Xuqui Primer El Sementalot, the father and founder of a dynasty of Dips, Catalonian Hellhounds renowned for their cruelty, their ruthlessness, their sound cynicism and their good looks. Always beware of Xuqui's Offspring 'cause our wrath is legendary! Otherwise we are quite friendly.

K9 Family

I've found my sister Quanna on the facebook. She's now one of the stars of a Hungarian Havanese Kennel. Maybe one day we'll meet personally -or rather doggally- again, most likely as two expatriate bitches on a dog show somewhere in Olde Europe. I miss you Quanna. All Love from your black sista from Spain!

The Spanish-Cuban Mountain Dog: the legend of the Sierra

That's the very rare Spanish-Cuban Mountain Dog -that is, the now very rare Spanish-Cuban Mountain Dog. In the beginning of the 20th century they were very common in the mountainous regions of Eastern Andalusia and in the Cuban Sierra Maestra. They were rustic energetic little balls of fluff and true multi-purpose dogs: they were excellent goat herders, watch dogs, chicken hunters and lap dogs, being the laps of their equally rustic owners their favourite workplace. They were very intelligent and most likely that was the cause of the stagnation and ulterior almost complete disappearance of the breed: they were quite successful at outsmarting their owners -who eventually noticed and took drastic measures: by the middle of the century almost all SCMDs had been substituted by German Shepherds. Yet quite a bit of their genetic inheritance survived: in the increasingly popular Havanese. This photo was taken in the Sierra Nevada (near Granada) some time around 1915.

Filatelia canina

El sello cubano es
el mejor del universo.
Le das la vuelta y ¿qué ves?
Lleva salsa en el reverso.
